The name of the town is derived from a local viking chief, Brunder. One of its sister cities is Nässjö, Sweden.

Brønderslev is a municipality in North Denmark Region in Denmark. The municipality was originally named Brønderslev-Dronninglund, this being the longest municipality name in Denmark. But at the municipal council's first meeting they decided to shorten the name to a new and shorter form: Brønderslev municipality. It covers an area of 630 km² and a total population of 35,525 (2008).

Vendsyssel
Vendsyssel is the northernmost traditional district of Denmark and of Jutland. Being divided from mainland Jutland by the Limfjord, it is technically a part of the North Jutlandic Island.
