Battle of Castlehaven

The Battle of Castlehaven was a naval battle that took place on the 6th December 1601 in the bay off Castlehaven on the south coast of Ireland during the Nine Years' War between a Spanish naval convoy of six ships and an English fleet, commanded by Admiral Richard Leveson and consisting of four warships. Protecting the Spanish convoy were fortified positions on shore, a castle and 600 Spanish and Irish footmen.

Castletownshend

Castletownshend (Irish: Baile an Chaisleáin) on Ireland's southwest coast, is a village about eight km from Skibbereen, in County Cork, Ireland. The village developed around a small 17th century castle built by Richard Townsend, whose descendants still reside there. As of 2007, the castle is open to the public as a bed and breakfast. Castlehaven GAA

Castlehaven Gaelic Football Club is a West Cork-based GAA club in the parish of Castlehaven near the town of Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. The club also draws players from the village of Union Hall. The club participates in competitions run by Cork GAA and by the Carbery divisional board. The club is primarily concerned with the game of Gaelic football, but has fielded hurling teams in the past.

Tragumna

Tragumna (Tráig na Móna in Irish, meaning Strand or Beach of the Turf) is a small hamlet located about 5 km from the town of Skibbereen in County Cork, Ireland. There is a small safe beach at Tragumna with a tiny island located about 100 metres offshore. The beach at Tragumna has once again been awarded a Blue Flag for the year 2011. A small lake (Lough Abisdeally) is nearby and is popular with birdwatchers. 3 km away is the world famous Lough Hyne which is a designated Marine Nature Reserve.
