Sdot Negev Regional Council, formerly known as Azata Regional Council is a regional council in the northwestern Negev desert in the South District of Israel. The Sdot Negev region council was established in 1951 by the Religious Zionist HaPoel HaMizrahi settlement movement. The moshav was established in 1950 as a ma'abara named Hakam Ha-107 (lit. The 107th Kilometre) after the milestone on the Beersheba-Gaza road which showed it to be 107 kilometres to Jerusalem.

Shaar HaNegev school bus attack
The Shaar HaNegev school bus attack was a missile attack on April 7, 2011, in which Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip fired a Kornet laser-guided anti-tank missile over the border at an Israeli school bus, killing a schoolboy. Hamas claimed the bus was traveling on a road used by Israeli military vehicles and it did not know that schoolchildren were on board. Israel said the yellow color of the bus made it easily identifiable and accused Hamas of "crossing a line.
