Urim SIGINT Base

Urim SIGINT Base is an Israeli intelligence-gathering installation, part of the Unit 8200. Urim is located in the Negev desert approximately 30km from Beersheba, a couple of kilometres north of the kibbutz of Urim. The existence of the signal interception base became known to the public only in 2010. Equivalents of Unit 8200 are the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) of Britain and the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States.

HaBesor Stream

HaBesor is a wadi in southern Israel. The stream begins at Mount Boker, and spills into the Mediterranean Sea near Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip, where it is called Wadi Gaza. The stream is the largest in the northern Negev, and together with its largest tributaries, the Grar and Beersheba streams, reaches as far as Sde Boker, Yeruham, Dimona and Arad/Tel Arad. The water is used by citizens of the Gaza Strip and Israel.

Sharuhen

Sharuhen was an ancient town in the Negev Desert. Following the expulsion of the Hyksos from Egypt in the second half of the 16th century BCE, they fled to Sharuhen and fortified it. The armies of Pharaoh Ahmose I seized and razed the town after a three-year siege.

Maslul

Maslul is a moshav in southern Israel. Located in the north-western Negev near Ofakim with an area of 8,000 dunams, it falls under the jurisdiction of Merhavim Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 380. The moshav was established in 1950 by immigrants from Iran.

Bitha

Bitha is a moshav in southern Israel. Located in the north-western Negev near Ofakim, it falls under the jurisdiction of Merhavim Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 675. The moshav was established in 1950 as a ma'abara named Hakam Ha-107 (lit. The 107th Kilometre) after the milestone on the Beersheba-Gaza road which showed it to be 107 kilometres to Jerusalem.
