Interesting facts about this location

Larkollen

Larkollen is a village in Rygge municipality, Norway. Its population is 1,382. Larkollen was the landfall on the main route between Oslo (then Christiania) and Copenhagen for several centuries. The lee behind the islands Sletter, Eldøya and Kollen south and west of Larkollen was an easily accessible harbor in all kinds of wind, which also was easy to defend. Sometime in the early 19th century the landfall was moved north to Jeløya outside of Moss.

Oslofjord

The Oslofjord is an inlet in the south-east of Norway, stretching from an imaginary line between the Torbjørnskjær and Færder lighthouses and down to Langesund in the south to Oslo in the north. It is part of the Skagerrak strait, connecting the North Sea and the Kattegat sea area, which leads to the Baltic Sea. The Oslofjord is not a fjord in the geological sense - in Norwegian the term "fjord" can refer to a wide range of waterways.

Viking ring fortress

Trelleborg is a collective name for six Viking Age circular forts, located in Denmark and the southern part of modern Sweden. Five of them have been dated to the reign of the Harold Bluetooth of Denmark (died 986). The fort in Borgeby has been dated to the vicinity of 1000 AD, so it is possible that it too, was built by the same king. This type of fortification is also named after the first discovered example; Trelleborg near Slagelse, excavated 1936-1941).
