Deir al-Balah Governorate

The Deir el-Balah Governorate is one of 16 Governorates of the Palestinian National Authority in the central Gaza Strip which is administered by the Palestinian National Authority aside from its border with Israel, airspace and maritime territory. Its total land area consists of 56 sq. kilometers. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, in mid-year 2006 it had a population of 208,716 inhabitants distributed between eight localities.

The Gaza Strip is a territory on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea that borders Egypt on the southwest (11 km) and Israel on the east and north (51 km). It is 41 kilometres long, and from 6 to 12 kilometres (to mi) wide, with a total area of 365 square kilometres . The population of Gaza Strip is about 1.7 million people. The population is predominantly Sunni Muslim. With a yearly growth rate of about 3.2%, the Gaza Strip has the 7th highest population growth rate in the world.

Murder of Tali Hatuel and her four daughters

The murder of Tali Hatuel and her four daughters was a shooting attack on May 2, 2004, in which Palestinian militants killed Tali Hatuel, a Jewish settler, who was eight months pregnant along with her four daughters, aged two to ten. The attack took place near the Kissufim Crossing near their home in Gush Katif bloc of Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada.

Tall al-Ajjul

Tall al-Ajjul is an archaeological tell in the Gaza Strip which dates back to 2100 B.C. The exact location of Tall al-Ajjul is located at the mouth of the Ghazzah Wadi just south of the town of Gaza. In 1930-1934 Tall al-Ajjul was excavated by British archaeologists under the direction of Sir Flinders Petrie, who thought the site was ancient Gaza, as it is sometimes known. In 1999 and 2000 the excavations were renewed by Peter M.

Battle of Hill 86

The Battle of Hill 86 was a military engagement between the Israel Defense Forces and the Egyptian Army in Operation Horev. It was fought on December 22–23, 1948, and was the first battle of the operation. The Israelis initiated the battle, as well as a concurrent raid on the Arab village 'Abasan and aerial and naval shelling of the coastal strip, in hopes of fooling the Egyptians into thinking that the coming operation would be aimed at isolating the Egyptian forces in Gaza.
