Battle of Vaal Krantz

The Battle of Vaal Krantz (5 February to 7 February 1900) was the third failed attempt by General Redvers Buller's British army to fight its way past Louis Botha's army of Boer irregulars and lift the Siege of Ladysmith. The battle occurred during the Second Boer War.

Spion Kop Battlefield Memorials

The Spion Kop Battlefield, graves and memorials are maintained by Heritage KZN. The battlefield was proclaimed as a heritage landmark in 1978. The site is open to the public and an overview of the battle as well as a map of the battlefield in available at the entrance gate.

Battle of Spion Kop

The Battle of Spion Kop (Dutch: Slag bij Spionkop; Afrikaans: Slag van Spioenkop) was fought about 38 km west-south-west of Ladysmith on the hilltop of Spioenkop along the Tugela River, Natal in South Africa from 23–24 January 1900. It was fought between the South African Republic and the Orange Free State on the one hand and British forces during the Second Boer War during the campaign to relieve Ladysmith and resulted in a British defeat.

Spioenkop Dam

Spioenkop Dam' impounds the Tugela River in KwaZulu-Natal. It is located within a nature reserve by the same name. The dam was commissioned in 1973, has a capacity of 272,265 cubic metres, and a surface area of 15.314 square kilometres, the dam wall is 53 metres high. Spion Kop (hill) is located 2.5 km to the north of the dam.

Qedusizi Dam

Qedusizi Dam is a earth-fill type dam located on the Klip River in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa near the city of Ladysmith. It was established in 1998 and serves mainly for flood storage/flood diversion purposes (regulation measures). The hazard potential of the dam has been ranked high (3).
