Founding of Hemet predates the formation of Riverside County. The formation of Lake Hemet helped the city grow and prosper, and stimulated agriculture in the area.

HAAAT - Hemet Academy of Applied Academics and Technology is a high school of 180 students all throughout Hemet, San Jacinto and surrounding areas. The school is operated by the Hemet Unified School District. HAAAT - Hemet Academy of Applied Academics and Technology's mascot is the Gecko.
