Gölcük Barbaros Hayrettin Lisesi

Barbaros Hayrettin Lisesi (Lycée), is a public high school in Gölcük, Kocaeli, Turkey. The school is named after Ottoman admiral Hayreddin Barbarossa. Short form of the school name is GBHL. Formed in 1958 as "Gölcük Lisesi" (GL), the high school named as "Barbaros Hayrettin Lisesi" in 1970 when it moved to its own building from the provisional location.

Otosan

Otosan (abbreviated from Otomobil Sanayi, Turkish for automotive industry) is a Turkish automotive production company, which is a joint venture between Ford Motor Company and Koç Holding. It started production in 1965; currently Ford and Koç each hold a 41% share in the venture. The first Ford cars to be assembled in Turkey was of the current British Ford Consul model series, followed later on by the West German Ford Taunus 17M Turnier (station wagon) model series.

1999 İzmit earthquake

The 1999 İzmit earthquake (also known as the Kocaeli or Gölcük earthquake) was a 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck northwestern Turkey on August 17, 1999, at about 3:02am local time. The event lasted for 37 seconds, killing around 17,000 people and leaving approximately half a million people homeless. Even though official sources consider casualties 17,000 people, non-official sources consider the casualties 35,000 people. The nearby city of Izmit was very badly damaged.
